I saw some astonishing pictures of solar flares and the sun's surface on the NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory website ([link] ) and their Flickr page ([link] ), and was instantly and irreversibly inspired. Solar flares have hi-jacked my brain. The sun is a terrifyingly beautiful thing when seen up close, and I'm amazed at the sort of equipment they have at their disposal.

I'm not happy with how the scan turned out, but it's the best I can do right now, since my memory card reader stopped working. I'll update with a better picture once I find a workaround (or buy a new reader).

It's quite possibly one of my favourite acrylic mediums, though I'm probably not using it exactly the way it's supposed to be used. I prefer my way, anyway.

Great. Love this. I am almost getting a figure from it, on the right hand side. But thats probably just my over-active imagination again.

Totally awesome painting. I agree solar flares, and stellar objects in general are amazing. I've never been able to capture them as I would hope, but you can. Your work rocks.

Wow, thank you so much! I wanted to capture some of the raw and unpredictable energy in solar flares, and I'm happy with how it turned out. I'm going to keep painting more solar flares. I still have a couple of ideas I want to try.
