The gradient mesh tool mostly there is an outline version on my Facebook page [link]

Most of the gradients and done with a gradient from a color to white then I multiply the object and change the opacity sometimes as low as 10% see if the outline helps out

I didn't really know about that tool, so while this is pretty accurate, it's still very stylistic and cell shaded.
