Downtown Washington, D.C. Shot this past MarchIntersection of Connecticut and I streets NW.
Part of my on-going b/w architecture series.
Was featured in a joint photography exhibition with ASMP (American Society of Media Photographers) and AIA (American Institute of Architects) during AIA's annual convention in Washington, D.C. in May.

Hi there Kendra! Congratulations on the exhibit, ASMP and AIA are both great organizations. If I were to pick out two things that you might consider, the first would be technical, the second would be compositional. This is a very dramatic scene, a tad underexposed but that really works here - you see all the subtleties in the reflections, but not so much in the deep shadow on the left. I'd prefer to tad more highlighting on the shaded side so the shadow seems a bit more graduated. The second is, to increase the drama either shoot the building head-on so it's symmetrical or use the rule of thirds to have 1/3 of the shown building in the shade, the peak, then 2/3 of the shown building on the reflected side. Nice find!

I do see what you mean about the highlights on the shadowy side; they do look a little more on the grey side. As for shooting this building head-on, that would probably be a challenge since the building had some construction going on inside and out and b/c of the barricade and fencing, this was the close I could get. However I do have a shot of the building using the rule of third, but is in color instead. If I decide to post that one I'll have you view that one as well
