perhaps because this deviation was made years before Lich King was made, and before DKs were even announced...?

The goblin/worgen masks could just be fan service and nothing else.
The worgen are a very new race in the Warcraft lore, and Blizzard has mentioned they will make playable races of races that are already seeded in the story.
Worgen got no backstory, no leaders, no culture and only the furries would love to play them, which is not gonna happen.
Draenei, while not deeply described pre-BC, still were mentioned several times in the Orc backstory during WarCraft 2.

VicDeLaCruz In reply to SydeX [2009-07-21 18:58:54 +0000 UTC]
You might want to check a bit to see their backstory, the oficial RPG has a lot of it and some of the books, they are relatively new but the Vrykul and the Tuskarr are new as well, and their place in hystory is retconned into it because there was no need to know about them before Northrend.
So can the Worgen be retconned as needed(thogh it is not, sice they DO have a culture), blizzard also stated that if they were going to add relatively new races they would be seeding them in a previous expansion so people would know them and worgen have been just as present as blood elves and the Draenei (as we knew them) in WoW.
Recently they added more masks all at once from vrykul, ogre, murloc and naga, very suspicious after so long with just 4 masks.
Again it might be wishful thinking but it is a bit off putting that someone who put in such an effort into making this cool design is not a bit hopeful about playing them, but that is your prerrogative and right. Not everyone who wants to play one is a furry, just like playing a night/Blood elf doesn't make you a vampire obsessed metrosexual or playing a gnome make you have a life-long dream of visiting a chocolate factory.
Again, not meant as a rant or attack, I say what I feel needs expressing, I also am saying "what if?" with Blizzard "never" has always been a sketchy term.

The Worgen are relatively a very very premature race in terms of lore, and yes the RPG books might give some info for them, but they don't tie to any of the other races or the factions. I say this based on my gaming experience, I haven't dwelled into the RPG books.
Your comparison is not very true mainly because like I said, High Elves (eventually Blood Elves) and Draenei had some backstory and were part of the history of the game since WarCraft 2 back in 1995.
Races like ogres, goblins have much more backstory and they actually have been around for a long time.
They can retconned everything they want really, at this point as a WarCraft fan I could care less what they do, the whole franchise has gone down the crapper and has just become another clichΓ© fantasy game.

[link] We must all be prepared to be proven wrong and take it with grace. It is a reputable source, small percentage that Blizz may change it but for now it is as it is. And nothing about WoW is cliche in the common sense. Few MMOs out there have sucha woven mix of comedy and drama, pop culture and It's own story.

Until I see Blizzard saying the races will be on the next expansion all it is to me is speculation, nothing more.
Blizzard wouldn't be so foolish as to put racial masks of eventual races easily that players can dig up, specially how tight lipped Blizzard is with all of their game developments.
Doesn't matter if there isn't another MMO doing the same kind of story WoW is, the whole lore has gone down the shitter for some time now, particularly with those things you mentioned, Ive been playing WarCraft games since 1995, my opinion might be biased but thats how I saw the franchise, they introduced too many new elements to the franchise that made it clichΓ©.
So please don't be so confident about the whole Worgen and Goblin argument, wait until Blizzard says Yes or No at Blizzcon, before coming back at me and saying "I told you so".

SydeX In reply to VicDeLaCruz [2009-08-11 06:59:59 +0000 UTC]
Yep, not that I don't care for the franchise, I still do as a fan of Blizzard's games, but at this point there is little that they will do that will make me care.
I could be wrong about the races, but Blizzard has never made a revelation like that with any of their games in the past, don't see them starting now.
We shall see at Blizzcon next friday.

SydeX In reply to VicDeLaCruz [2009-08-22 00:11:42 +0000 UTC]
Wasn't expecting it, but at this point its no surprise, which is why I mentioned to wait till Blizzcon.
Good stuff for those who still play, but to me the game ended long ago. The whole lore behind Worgen having druids and Tauren being paladins seems way off base now, to me it seems Blizzard has just gone out the window with their established lore in place of favoring every wish made by the fans, and not all of them are good.
Btw if your interested or know someone who does, Im selling my WoW account check my journal if so.
Cheers
