The next morning, Cyrax was in Silver Phantom's old sleeping quarters, clearing it out. The old assassin didn't have any monetary possessions, but being in the room comforted Cyrax. In life, Silver Phantom had a fascination with pirates and the tales of the sea, and it reflected in his personal quarters. He often entertained Cyrax with stories of nautical adventures when he was small child. It helped eased the loneliness of being in a new home when the little boy had been unable to speak English. As he was reminiscing about his childhood, he noticed there were some papers and hand-drawn maps on Silver Phantom's desk. Upon closer inspection, there was a letter in German, Silver Phantom's native tongue, addressed to him. He learned German from Silver Phantom as a child and could still speak and write it. It looked recent, dated a few days before Silver Phantom was hospitalized.

"To my beloved Street Urchin" Cyrax began, "I am aware that calling you such annoys you, but I mean it endearingly, so please, do not take offense. If you have found this letter, then it means my illness and old age has finally claimed me. You know I would have preferred to die on a mission, but life did not give me that choice. Before they cart me off to die in luxury, I wanted to say some things to you."

"I admit, when I found you all those years ago on the outskirts of Botswana, emaciated, desperate, I pitied you. I did not give you long to live. But there was something in your eyes and your voice that convinced me to help you.
I am glad that you proved me wrong. Now, as you are the top five assassins that Orion has, I'm proud of you, Street Urchin. From your initiation, to your first kill, to the completion of your academic studies, you've not only survived, but you've lived!

"I was not fortunate to have a son of my own, but looking back, I had a son all along in you. But, you knew that, didn't you? If not, Fenyang, then you know now. I hope that you continue to live your life, as you choose it, whether with the clan or on your own. However, do watch that independent streak around Orion if you stay with the Lin Kuei. He'll never admit it, but he's afraid you'll corrupt his son."

"Speaking of which, I'm well aware that you regard Hou as more than your clan brother. Our prince needs you, regardless of what Orion tries to mandate. You cannot forbid friendship or love if one must learn to trust their clan brother. His father refuses to acknowledge this, but there may be hope for Hou once he becomes Grandmaster. Either way, tell him to stop being an ass."

"Sorry, Hans. I have been trying to tell him that for years. He hasn't listened to me then, he will not do it now." Cyrax mused to himself before he continued reading the letter.

"I hear the afternoon village chime, so it it time for me to be carted off to the hospital to die in peace. Fenyang, I have no regrets in life, as I know I will answer for the lives I've taken. I leave you with this very room for you personal use. Orion granted me that as a friend. Know that I love you, Street Urchin, and that you flourish in life. Please, do not dwell on my passing, I've never been more calm. Tare care. May we meet again in the afterlife. Hans Hauser."

New tears came to the young assassin's eyes as he placed down the letter. He smiled, wiping the tears from his eyes. For the first time since Silver Phantom's passing, he was no longer saddened by his passing. He recalled Sektor's words the previous day.

Sektor...Hou....Yes, he still had Sektor, and for that, he was thankful for.

"You're rather comfortable in his chair." Sektor remarked entering the room.
"I was clearing our somethings and catching up on my German."
"A likely story. Don't tell me you were moping about again."
"I started to...but I remembered that he wouldn't want me to continue like that."
"I'm glad some common sense finally went through to you. It still sucked that it took a kiss in the rain to get that across."
"You didn't exactly pull away either."
The older man leaned into him, "It's still overrated."
Cyrax looked up at him and smiled, grasping the hand on the desk, "I love you too, you ass."

A comfortable silence passed between them.
