Description So I started this painting about a month ago, and I left it alone and got back to it today...

And of course, discovered ALL of the things that I had done wrong gaaaaah. His head is tilted and his facial features are skewed, and a lot of it I would have had to scrap a large portion of the painting and just start over because it's in the structure. ;~; So instead, I fixed up what I could and left the rest sort of WIP-ish (like the jacket).

I think this is all I'm going to do with this one, but I'd like to re-do it someday when I have more experience under my belt to see how far I can improve.

A person who wasn't out to criticize pictures would have thought it was a real picture. I did, then I read some comments and looked again. Love your art soo much.

Haha, the critiques help me to improve these portraits - humans are hard to paint! Thank you kindly!

Even if you don't consider this your best work, it's still very nice.  There's something about the pose and expression I really like

Here from Project-Comment

Well done on the lighting. The contrast and range of tones is really striking. I like the bits of blue in his hair.

A couple things for critique:
-His nose and mouth don't quite line up. The nose seems to be inline with the eyes okay, but his mouth is skewed a bit to his right (our left)

-I like the idea of the smoke coming out of his mouth, but most of the smoke doesn't look very "smoke-like." It looks more like a filter in photoshop. For something like this, it might help go over it manually a few times with a soft, semi-transparent brush to make the smoke more wispy. (use the smudge tool with caution).

Hope his helps!

Thank you for the critique!! I had a reeeeally hard time with that smoke, I kept trying different brushes to get the effect (the brush I settled with is one that I usually just use for blending). I'll try next time to use another brush on top of that to soften it out. I can never get anything to look nice with the smudge tool so I usually never use it XD

Hello! I am from 's tag line with the word texture.

I chose this one mainly because of the texture of the jacket, along with the hair.

The jacket has some nice little wrinkles and shadow to help give it a sense of texture and realism especially the zippers, with the marks on the tab piece and all. I think for his hair it could use a little work, on the right side  it looks like it's flopped over a bit strange compared to the rest of it.

Sorry about this being so short, but I'll see if I can tell you so more later.

Your word is Bright for TigerRose1329 gallery.

Thanks for the crit. I used this picture for the ref: weheartit.com/entry/91350085?u…  Could you tell me how I could fix up the hair to look a bit better?

Over the right ear it looks to me a bit like the hair is floating a little bit above the ear, though that may just be because of the lighting.

At first glace, I thought this piece was a photograph! Great sense of realism! I love the play of the lighting and shadows here. Beautifully done!
