Description

A map of cities in Namjyut , the country I'm currently playing on NationStates.

Namjyut is a continuation of the ancient Nanyue Kingdom, diverging in 120 BC. Modern borders were defined in a few events: The northern border of Guangxi and Guangdong was solidified after the Namjyut-Mongol War ending in 1276, when the Mongols wrest the territories of the Southern Song away from Namjyut but are stopped at a row of Namjyut fortifications. The Yunnan region was acquired in 1360 during the decline of the Yuan Dynasty, after the Red Turban Rebellion and the diminishing power of the central government in China. The Vietnamese border was defined in 1868, after the German Invasion of Indochina.

City names are in (transliterated and original) Cantonese, which is the official language of Namjyut.
Man, QGIS is finicky. I had curved labels for the neighboring countries at first but they kept disappearing at various zoom levels even with zoom-specific visibility off and rendering despite collisions turned on.

Only problem I have: Why is it 觀明, not 昆明? And 鬱林 Wat Lam, not 桂林 Kwai Lam?

昆明 (Kūnmíng) is the Mandarin transcription of an ancient endonym, so I substituted 觀 (gun1) for 昆 (gwan1) so it would work in Cantonese. Then gun is rendered into kun in the pre-jyutping romanization scheme used in Namjyut.

鬱林 is Yulin. 桂林, Guilin, is outside of Namjyut's borders.
