Description He was the most serious little cub she had ever laid her eyes on, eyebrows consistently knotted together by some magnetic force and maw seemingly permanently settled into a tight, grim frown. The boy was only a week older than she, but seemed set on making himself give off the atmosphere of a seasoned warrior who had seen all the horrors the world had to offer over his long lifetime.
They had met once before, when they were too young to remember; betrothed from birth, her Father said jovially. Did he come out of his Mother looking this stern?
Uru began to approach, cautiously at first. Their parents had settled them near the bottom of Pride Rock's peak, allowing the two to begin their journey of getting to learn about one another. So far, it wasn't going so good - Ahadi wasn't even facing her, crouched with his shoulders hunched and head lowered.

"Uh...hi!" Uru managed to break the excruciating silence, blinking when her voice made the boy flinch. She padded closer, plastering on what was hopefully a friendly, welcome grin.

One of Ahadi's ears swiveled to face her, indicating that he heard her. He didn't respond verbally.

How awkward. She had never met such a stand off-ish cub before. Uru couldn't tell if he was doing this to be rude, or if he was being mute out of shyness.

"It's, uh, nice to meet you!" the golden cub continued, inching closer. Still no response, other than his tail flicking. "Well, we met before - my dad said that - when we were really young, but I don't think you remember me, and I don't remember you either -- so this is more like a first meeting..."

She trailed off with a huff. This was getting nowhere quickly.

"I..." the Princess struggled briefly to find a topic that would get him to speak back to her. She was going to properly get his attention, even if she had to pounce and pin him to the rocky floor. "I, um, like your mane!"

Said mane, a tuft atop his head of red, overtly curly fur that was surely going to grow into something quite lovely once he was grown, bounced slightly as Ahadi finally turned to face her; if only slightly so. His head tilted just a bit, just enough for her to catch a glimpse of one stark red eye. Then their eyes met, and he quickly turned back around, as if the mere act of eye contact was going to set him ablaze.

Uru suppressed a sigh. At least that was a start.

ayy I said I wanted to start working on other fandoms! TLK has been on I've been quietly participating in for several years; once in a blue moon i did art, but mostly just followed a bunch of comic artists. This is sorta a milestone pic as I feel like I've finally gotten the hang of drawing these dang creatures!

Of course this is my version of Mufasa/Scar's parents, one of countless variations floating about. <: in my universe Ahadi was indeed a quiet, sullen, and often shy cub, where Uru was rather boisterous and playful (a trait that followed her into adulthood). But because of her peppy nature, she's not quite sure how to make do with having such a anti-social boy holding the title of future ruler alongside her.

I never really thought about the previous generation of Pride Rock.

It's a pretty common thing the fan base likes to look at! There are even comics going back to even earlier gens,  such as the very first king :0
