Description Request for who asked me to draw her gargirl OC, Emerald Quillon.

I thought the light lavender colour was suitable for a relaxed sort of image I don't know what book she's reading, I'll leave that for the viewer to decide.

I used a reference. I did the pose on a sofa and asked my Mum to photograph it. Whenever I'm doing a tricky pose, I'll usually do the pose myself in front of a mirror, or ask someone to take a photo of me doing it. Makes my art life a little bit easier

I haven't heard about such way, isn't it for you easier to copy any ref from google?

If I find the right reference, then sure. But sometimes I have a very specific pose in mind and Google images don't have what I'm looking for. So sometimes I'm better off doing it myself, just like I did in this: Not the most comfortable pose I've done, but it had to be done for the sake of art!

O_O

still okay. But if you draw a gargoyle or other fantasy creature, you have to know how his feet, wings, tail, horns look in such pose. So what you do?

Using the development of the Topside drawing as an example, I draw a rough sketch to try and get the pose right and also figure out the placements of things like tails, wings, etc. Topside WIP 2 You can't really see it in that scanned picture, but the original sketch has a lot more guidelines in it. I just edited it in Photoshop to make the sketch look a little clearer.

The wings in this case were really rather difficult for me to imagine them in that pose, and it was mostly guesswork: Topside WIP 3 At first I used a little model of a dragon I have to help me visualise how the wings should look, but it wasn't enough. If you look at Inland69's comments on that sketch, he offered me some very useful and helpful advice That's one of the reasons why I post my works in progress online, to ask for help if I'm stuck with something.

So I made a few changes according to Inland69's advice, which resulted in Topside WIP 4 which looks a hell of a lot better than the previous sketch!
