Pazru - are unpleasant spirits that dwell in coal mines and coal deposits, which are called "blood-coal".Pazru tend to hide and hunt those who are careless enough to come closer - to catch their pray for sure Pazru tend to sing, imitating sounds around them in a pleasant manner.
Poor one who got caught is dragged away closer to coal mines - and then sucked dry in minutes.
Blood of such unlucky one soaks deep into coal rocks, riving them a bit crimson tone with time - such coal bleeds if broken and not good for common use, due to it gives a foul stench of rotten blood when burned.
Though, Pazru can't go far from it's "home" rocks - you can judge about "safe radius" by the length of Pazru's hair.
Know way of fighting a Pazru - is badly breaking that blood-coal deposit that spirit lives in. After certain damage done to that deposit, Pazru will deform - and perish into nowhere, leaving the area safe from now on.

Something tells me, that Pazru would not run anyway - has no hinds; can't get further, than that "hair" allows... and it will prefer beating you good first - and drink you dry after, pity warmblood.

Oddly enough, my core temperature averages a half degree less than the average person, even when working out. Cold blood does not taste as good as hot blood.
P.S. How strong are they and what factors influence it?

How strong... Try fighting alligator's jaws, for a good comparison. Factors are simple - longer Pazru lives - bigger is the coal deposit - stronger the creature is.

Might as well lob a few incendiaries down the shaft instead then. 
Though I have a bit of a funny story. Me and my younger brother got the bright idea to try and take all the gun powder out of 1000 gun caps and put them all into a plastic film container. We used a nail to punch a hole through its cap and thread a kite string through. I then tried to light it but before I even brought the flame to the string the whole thing exploded in my finger tips. I was completely frozen stiff and very much deaf before finally checking my fingers to find them all OK until I noticed that one of my thumbnails was scorched completely black. My first though was: This is going to really, really hurt in a second. Suffice it to say, we never tried that again.
On second thought, my valiant quest to purge the lands of pazru would likely go up in flames just as well. I would probably be better off moving to Centralia, Pennsylvania instead.
