Description
Ruins of a gothic castle from the 14th century, located on a hill above the Dunajec River (now on Czorsztyn Lake) within the borders of the Pieniny National Park.
"One of the most interesting places in the history of Poland, a monument to the times of Casimir the Great, the apartment of Zawisza the Black, and today a crumbling skeleton, Czorsztyn! (...)
A lofty and unpleasant mountain, ruling on one side of the neck of the Nowy Targ valley, on the other side starting a range of hills, ending with the Pieniny rocks, this is the position of Czorsztyn. The edifice itself stands on its southern side, rising from the flat meadows perpendicularly, naked, like a wall of solid pink rock. The wall of the castle on this side is like a further derivation of the rock; no mortal could come in that way."
Seweryn Goszczyński "Travel diary to the Tatra Mountains" 1853
