Description    Her name used to be Scarlet. She used to be the most popular girl in school. She could get anything she wanted at any time at the snap of her pale fingers. Her blond hair was always straightened to perfection. Her make-up was always perfect, she wouldn't leave the house until it was.

Why did all this happen to Scarlet?

She was minding her own business, doing her own thing. She always picked on people, because that was how she was. One day, she saw the boys picking on a ninth grader. Usually she just let it go. This time was different, they had their fists raised at her. Scarlet ran to protect the girl who was crying in front of a locker. Ever since that day, everything changed...

Someone started calling her a lesbian, and it went around the whole school. Soon she was the laughing stock. She went home crying everyday. Her parents were getting worried. They put her into counseling, but she never went. She went from popular to humiliated within three days.

That girl she saved became her only friend. She told Scarlet her name was Melody She tried to help Scarlet. She sat at her locker all day watching everyone walk by her who used to be friends with her. All they ever did now was laugh at her. "What is wrong with being a lesbian?" She thought to herself.

She walked up to the boy who started the rumor and demanded what was wrong with being a lesbian. The only thing he did was laugh and say that Scarlet confirmed the rumor. Everything got worse.

When she got home that night, she wrote three letters. One to her parents, one to the girls who used to be her friend, and one to Melody.

Dear mom and dad,
I love you so much, but I have no fight left in my body. I'm sick of being picked on. What is it all worth in such a time where being called a lesbian makes the whole world hate you?
Please donate all of my college funds to any organization that will help raise awareness. People need to be aware of how everyone is being treated if they come out as bi-sexual, gay, lesbian etc.
I love you both until the ends of the world, but living on where everyone wants to make fun of me for something I'm not hurts. I'll say I've learned a valuable lesson the past three weeks.
If I could go back in time and fix the way I was, I would do it. I would go back, and stop myself from treating all those poor students like crap.
Do you remember when Sadie Fennish killed herself? That was my friend's fault, and my own. We killed her because we were selfish. We made her want to die because we were too stuck up to know that she was beautiful too.
You're going to die, I'm going to die. It's going to happen. What difference does it make if it's tomorrow or in eighty years? There's no way out. There's no way out!
Goodbye mom and dad. Don't ever forget me.
Love your beautiful baby girl,
Scarlet.

The tears started to flow as she folded the letter and put it into an envelope. She wrote, "To: Mom and Dad" on the front of the envelope and tucked the flap inside. Then she started her next letter.

Dear Trysh, Sammie and Jade,
I used to think that there was nothing better than being your friend. We ruled those hallways together. But what we didn't know is that we were too harmful to people.
I have a feeling that it was our fault that Sadie killed herself. We were too harmful to her because we called her ugly every day.
I hope you know that being bi-sexual or lesbian or gay is not a bad thing. I don't understand why you three stopped being my friend because of a rumor. If you guys would have talked to me, I would've told you the truth. But you dropped me like I was contaminated with a disease.
I'll say I've learned a valuable lesson the past three weeks. If I could go back in time and fix the way we were, I would do it. I would go back, and stop us from treating all those poor students like crap.
You're going to die, I'm going to die. It's going to happen. What difference does it make if it's tomorrow or in eighty years? There's no way out. There's no way out!
Good bye forever,
Scarlet.

Rage burned through Scarlet's blood as she folded the letter and put it into a different envelope than before. She wrote, "To: Trysh, Sammie and Jade" on the front of the envelope and tucked the flap inside. Then she started her final letter.

Dear Melody,
You were truly my only friend. Thank you for being there for me, it means a lot to have an exceptional friend. To think that if this hadn't of happened, I would probably be the one picking on you. Thank you for being my light.
I now see what you guys have gone through all these years where I would just pick on you all until you cried. I didn't have a heart, and I didn't care what happened to anyone. Let me tell you my reason for saving you.
When I was younger, I had different parents than I do now. My father was abusive to both my mother and myself. We couldn't run, there was no way out of it. My mother tried to get me out of there, but failed every time. I ended up going to school with bruises every day.
One day, I came home from school. My mother and my father weren't home, which was odd. They were always home when I got home from school. I never thought anything of it.
When it started getting late, I started to get worried. I wanted to go look for my mother and father, but I knew he wouldn't like that. Once the clock said 9:00, I decided that it was too much time for them to be away. I got my coat and shoes on and opened the door.
My father was standing at the door covered in blood. He yelled at me and I asked where my mother was, he told me she was killed in a car crash and he tried to save her. I ran up to my room crying because now I knew I was stuck with him.
The next day at school, my teacher pulled me aside and showed me a newspaper article. It said that my mother was found dead in an ally way after she had reported abuse to the police. My teacher took me to the office where I was taken by these two lovely women. I stayed in the hospital for a week and then was brought to a home.
Three weeks later, I was adopted by the parents I have now. They loved to spoil me, because they believed that I should get a different life completely.
I saved you, because I know what it's like to be beaten until black and blue, and no one, especially a man is going to hit a woman, or anyone like that while I'm around.
I learned what it's like to be picked on, and being a spoiled brat getting what I want, I decided that I should turn the tables. I have learned a great deal about what people do to hurt others, and I needed to change.
You're going to die, I'm going to die. It's going to happen. What difference does it make if it's tomorrow or in eighty years? There's no way out. There's no way out!
Goodbye Melody, don't let people hurt you.
Love,
Scarlet.

Her tears flowed faster down her cheeks as she folded her final letter and placed it into the envelope. She wrote, "To: Melody" on the front and tucked the flap inside.

Her heart was beating quick. She knew she only had one chance to do it. She ran down into the kitchen and grabbed the sharpest knife. Her parents weren't home from work yet. Perfect.

She dropped the envelopes on the kitchen table and ran back up to her bedroom. She slammed her door and let all of the sobs out at once. She sat on her bedroom floor.

In one swift movement, she pulled the knife clean across her wrist. It cut deep, not deep enough, but she wanted to feel her life escape her slowly. She slit into the other wrist and felt the burn followed by the warmth of her blood. It spilled out onto the carpet.

She heard the door open downstairs and knew she had to be quick. She plunged the knife deep into her stomach and it took her by surprise. She sputtered out to her mom and dad and coughed up some blood. She realized what she had just done and began crying.

Her mom opened her door and looked down at her on the floor and screamed. She ran to her side. Her dad dialed 9-1-1. She felt her body collapse to the white carpet and her vision was going out. She couldn't even hear her mom call her name anymore. She reached up to touch her mom's face and her eyes closed just as her hand made contact.

She opened her eyes and was standing above her dead body.

"Scarlet no!" her mom screamed. She wanted to comfort her mother, but she couldn't think of how. She ran through the wall into her garden and plummeted to the ground. She landed gently. She walked through the small forest on the other side of her fence wondering why she had done what she had done.

She saw Melody in the forest staring at her.

   "Scarlet?"
   "You can see me?"
"And hear you, why did you do it?" to Scarlet's surprise, the wind still had an effect on her hair as it blew strands in front of her face.

"Read your letter on my table Melody."
"I actually thought they weren't joking Scarlet. What you did, you saved me. I loved that. Thank you for saving me. I fell in love with you."

Scarlet's mouth dropped open. She couldn't believe her ears.

   "You did?"
"Yes, can you stay here for me?"

   Scarlet smiled at her request.

   "Of course I can."

A week later, she went with Melody to her funeral. It was weird watching her own body being lowered into the ground. Melody walked up to speak.

"I was Scarlet's true friend. I was the only one who didn't turn my back on her when she was being made fun of. She saved me when I thought I was going to get beaten.
"I fell in love with Scarlet that day. I never thought she would leave us."

Then Melody walked over to the band that was playing at Scarlet's funeral and asked for a guitar. She began to sing, which made everyone cry.

"She walks to school with the lunch she packed. Nobody knows what she's holdin' back. Wearin' the same dress she wore yesterday, she hides the bruises with linen and lace.
"The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask. It's hard to see the pain behind the mask. Bearing the burden of a secret storm, sometimes she wishes she was never born.
"Through the wind and the rain, she stands hard as a stone. In a world that she can't rise above. But her dreams give her wings, and she flies to a place where she's loved. Concrete angel."
"Somebody cries in the middle of the night. The neighbors hear, but they turn out the light. A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate. When morning comes it'll be too late.
"Through the wind and the rain, she stands hard as a stone. In a world that she can't rise above. But her dreams give her wings, and she flies to a place where she's loved. Concrete angel.
"A statue stands in a shaded place. An angel girl with an upturned face. A name is written on a polished rock. A broken heart that the world forgot.
"Through the wind and the rain, she stands hard as a stone. In a world that she can't rise above. But her dreams give her wings, and she flies to a place where she's loved. Concrete angel."

Scarlet's spirit started spending all her time with Melody. She never checked on anyone else. She was starting to fall in love with Melody.

One day, Melody looked to Scarlet with sad eyes.

"Scarlet, I love you. I want to join you."

Scarlet wanted to say no, but a voice took over in her head.

   "Join me, my dear Melody."

Scarlet cried as soon as those words parted from her lips. Melody nodded at once. Scarlet tried to stop her.

Melody ran into her garage and picked up a gun. She shot herself in the face. Scarlet screamed having to watch that. Melody's parents ran into the garage and cried for hours. Melody's spirit hadn't joined her yet. That meant she was still alive.

Meoldy's eyes blinked open. She cried out to Scarlet but her parents said she was dead. Melody wasn't going to fight for her life. She was rushed to the hospital and Scarlet was at her bedside.

Melody's eyes closed and the monitor beeped once, twice. Then it was a solid line. The doctors ran in to try and bring her back. They were at it for ten minutes, as Scarlet saw Melody's spirit flow out of her body. Scarlet frowned.

"You committed suicide to be with me, that is just selfish!"
"You committed suicide to get away from the drama! That's selfish!"

The girls laughed and Scarlet hugged Melody and felt a strong heat on her. A white light engulfed the two spirits and carried them up together in an embrace.
