Simba slowly reveals more of what happened with Zira while also answering more questions. And Banzai speaks for the audience in Panel 5. He's a former gung-ho follower of Scar's who does hate the guy's guts now, and he's usually blunt, so he's probably one of the best characters to ask that question point blank.

I've always wished TLK II had said something about Sarabi. I assumed she died of old age in between films, but I think her absence deserved a proper explanation.

Actually the reason why Sarabi didn't appear in the second film was because her voice actress had passed away by then. Out of respect for her, I think that's why they sort of 'retired' the character from further use.

Okay, thanks for that. I knew Madge Sinclair was deceased, but I didn't know when she had passed away. It makes sense that Disney wouldn't want to just replace her for the role, but it's odd that they've never said anything about what happened to the character in between films.

That part, I don't know. I figured either the writers didn't want to touch on the subject or they were working under time constraints. I was never sure.

Reading this I can now understand and appreciate how β€˜Lion king’ expanded universe stories are such a thing whereas before I thought they were annoyingly unnecessary.

β€” a person who grew up w/ the 90’s β€˜Timon and Pumbaa’ but not β€˜the Lion guard’

Lol. I actually rewatched a bunch of "Timon and Pumbaa" episodes the other day that I taped off of TV as a kid. Good stuff. Never saw "House of Mouse," but I imagine that episodes where the TLK characters casually go to a restaurant for lunch with other characters from different movies would raise a lot of unnecessary questions.

And thanks! I'm glad you'e enjoying the comic so far.

Yes. He's talking about Kopa while basically trying not to talk about Kopa.

this comic is really great, and I love the really unique angle of it.

my only question is, if Zira murdered his son I really have trouble seeing him, or anyone in his place, forgiving her because of Kiara's speech

the other outsiders I can get, especially when they turned on their leader, but Zira?

in his place, who could possibly allow her back in the pridelands?

Thank you very much! I'm glad you're enjoying the story so far.

I have an idea for much later that might help with the issue of Simba forgiving Zira, but I think to a certain extent, he ends up realizing that he helped make her his enemy even after Scar's death. He never trusted her, and he always viewed her pride as the outsiders in the group even before exiling them. I think Zira mostly just snapped when she killed Kopa.

I'll have to rewatch the end of TLK II, but I feel like Simba's comments to her there could be interpreted more like him offering to try and work something out with her than forgiving her outright. He just wanted the fighting to stop.

that's certainly an interesting point, I look forward to seeing where this goes!

I've been mostly a silent reader so far, and I hope I didn't come off as rude, I was curious how you would tackle that issue

I really have enjoyed this far, it's some important character development for Simba that we just didn't get to see in canon

Thank you! And no worries. Any questions about how things tie in with the movies are welcome because they help me see what I need to make clearer on future pages. Feedback means you're getting invested in the story.

Why did Simba also exile her cubs??

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Lokiimagik In reply to spyrkle4 [2020-04-10 04:24:38 +0000 UTC]

ehh I would guess it's because he didn't feel it was really right to take Zira's children from her

I kind of doubt she would have accepted that anyway

it's not like Zira couldn't have taken her pride somewhere else rather then stay in the outlands.

she stuck around because she obsessively wanted revenge and condemned her children to the same ideal

Simba shouldn't be blamed for not taking her children away, at least at the start, when Kovu was presented a 'pound of flesh' and it was obvious she was abusive, THEN he probably should have stepped in, but was blinded by his hate of Scar

KRRouse In reply to spyrkle4 [2020-04-09 16:35:33 +0000 UTC]

My guess is because Simba figured her cubs would resent him too and also try to get revenge one day if he didn't exile them with Zira, plus he probably wanted to cut all remote ties with Scar. Plus he probably didn't want any of the lions who were loyal to him having to adopt and raise them if he kept the cubs around.

Thanks Simba

Yeah, it's hard to justify that one, but considering that Simba did it in the actual movies, maybe that's part of the whole idea of him being blinded by his hate. After all, this whole interrogation with Banzai is happening so Simba can decide what to do with a newborn cub who REALLY has no control over anything.

You can see the realization dawn on Banzai that it was Simba’s son, Kopa, that was killed. Especially since he has his pup cub there too

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KRRouse In reply to OnyxWolfGirl [2020-04-08 05:04:58 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad you noticed that. In my mind, Banzai didn't know about Simba ever having a cub until this exact moment. He's figuring that must be what Simba's hinting at, but he's way too afraid now to ask for confirmation because he knows how easily he might make Simba snap, and that could ruin everything for the hyena cub.
