To answer most of your questions.I'm using 0.3 HB mechanical pencil most of the time and Smudge stick and Gum eraser.
Then adjust level in photoshop.

Wow. I use an HB Faber-Castell reg'ler pencil, and "tweak" or tone everything with "primitive" software. I am an HB fanatic. I keep seeing the same with others that are the very best on Deviant, so I'm glad I'm on the righteous path to drawing salvation. You are clearly drawing on a "pebbled" effect, possibly recycled card stock? Separate sheets or sketchbook? Size? Love your style, very graphic and bold, but not comic booky (!) Nice to see original styles. Interesting that you combine different kinds of faces and more on one page, male and female, pretty and not so pretty.
