Have you tried experimenting limiting yourself to a few chosen colors? Like in Warframe, you can customize your character with a limited pallete of 4 colours. Just an idea i had today.

well, limited palette is fun challenge, but I rarely have time for it to work. 
colors matter little cause I do most of shape defining work in values, so technically I can color them however I want.

yeah, I know MGS stuff, tho don't particularly dig designs probably cause I didn't play them much and only one I planning to play is Revengeance.

ouch, well do what you want, but if you want to play a new game about metal gear, i would highly advice you to try out phantom pain instead.
