Do you know why this type of sword has the spikes on the blade? They were designed to break pike shafts, to help make an opening in a pike wall. The men that wielded the great swords were paid more then the average pike-men in the army due to the more hazardous job they did.

I did model this off of the zwienhander i didn't know that they actually broke the shafts I thought they where for close quarters combat once they pushed down the line. Its funny how they got paid more though it would be super crappy to be the first one in to a pike line.

Ah! I should have known from the guard!
Grabbing the sword at the ricasso (between the spikes and the guard) and the grip makes for effective use of it in close quarters. Kind of like a short a short quarter-staff with edges!
