Description Owltober 22nd

I've been wanting to animate an owl all month and although today was pretty bad as far as days go, I managed to scribble this out for the sake of it. Animation-wise, it's not much more than a simplistic ball bounce, but hopefully it still has some cuteness value.

I'll get in contact with major television providers regarding the establishment of a Bouncing Owl Channel with 24 hour replay action. They can underlay some techno music and match up the BPM. 8]

I'm suddenly inspired to design two characters, one named Squash and one named Stretch. Actually, it'd be kind of awesome to make designs based on all of the principles of animation. Totally puttin' that idea on my mental backburner. xD

........That would be amazing. XD Maybe design different owls based on what the principal is and then line them all up doing a motion as simple as this one to illustrate the principle they stand for. It'd be a great little "tutorial"!

Haha, maybe! I was thinking more along the lines of weird abstract cartoon characters, since I think Owltober has labeled me forever as 'the owl guy', but owls could certainly work for it. XD I like the way you're thinkin', though!

The way you do owls seems pretty simple, so at least Squash and Stretch would work considering they're kinda "ball-like".

Haha, yeah, this silly little ball owl certainly lent itself to quick squash and stretch effects without having to think too much about it. I enjoy the squash/stretch of cubes the most, though, since they create amusing convex/concave shapes. x]

haha the springy branch when the little feller bounces back into the air cracks me up so bad XD this is ridiculously cute. they should sell little bouncy balls with different owl faces on them or something. it would be my life's goal to collect them all!

Oh man, I'd definitely obsess over putting quarters in whatever machine dispensed those owls. Reminds me of when I was super young and had a big marble collection with a bunch of shooter marbles that had Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle characters inside them. Man those things were awesome.

The spacing and timing is very good, the weight is convincing. My only criticism; you may need a frame in there to ease out of the squash, it feels very violent. But good job!

I originally had some more traditional keyframes and inbetweens in there, but I nixed 'em because I preferred the overdriven snappy motion. Good eye for what was technically missing, though! Gotta know the rules to break 'em.
