Description I still fail at watercolors. But I fail a little less than I did before. ( Before: [link] ) Only a little though. Mom bought an artbook/how-to book at Fanime that I've been using for the last two days. Maybe if I keep practicing, eventually I'll not suck.

Oh hey gaiz, the salt method doesn't appear to work for me. Anyone who uses watercolors here who can tell me why the salt isn't making my paper sexy like it should?

Salt it while it's wet and let it dry completely and utterly before you brush it off?
You could try using different sizes of salt too. In art class we used something just a bit chunkier than table salt.

THat's what I do though. Well usually Im too impatient to wait for the paint to dry 100% completely, but these last few pictures I have. And I used tablesalt AND this chunky-ish sea salt stuff. How wet is your paper when you add the salt?

I add it as soon as I do the paint before it has any chance to dry at all.

Hey, it's actually really good! Don't be so hard on yourself =]

Anyways, I love the serene look on her face and the almost stained-glass look up top.

it looks really good actually.. but you should paint only that pot or the ones you plan to put the salt on of the same colour anyway first and keep doing it that way! It wroks well for me.

OH! BTW, let the peices of color with salt on completely dry before you shake it off or it will makr all the page and it'll look like crudd! Believe me! I knwo from an unfortunate experience!

But thats what I do ;_; Im actually thinking it might have something to do with my paper. Maybe it's too absorbant and doesn't want to release the color to the salt crystals

well.. what kind of paper were you using?..

Bienfang watercolor paper. It doesn't say what type it is or anything.

And I probably shouldn't be using their watercolor paper since I absolutely despise their sketchbook paper, but it was the only kind they had here 8D;

hm.. yeh.. i suggest either Hilroy watercolor or canson if you can get it.. but i've found that beinfang works fine for me when i have peices like that.... that's odd..

Never heard of Hilroy. I've heard of Canson before though. Thanks, I'll look for those brands next time I go to the art store in Santa Barbara.

Why do you have to be so hard on your self? It looks really good.I only use the salt on the computer and it makes it look burning.
