Description This was sort of a little prototype for a commission I've been working on. I wanted to make sure I'd get the petal layering just right. This one's a bit smaller than the actual commission, though.

Hi... found my way here via Google or all things, searching for good reference pictures of kanzashi.

I hope you don't mind if I ask a few questions about this particular piece?

When creating the petals, did you "stack" the different colored fabric squares and then make one petal with all three pieces together, or did you make each petal individually and then set the smaller one inside the constructed petal?

Also, for the pointed petal "leaves" beneath the big blossom... did you change the shape of your base to get that elongated shaped base for the petals to sit on, or are they just make from different sized squares?

Wow... I hope those questions make sense.

Is absolutely beautiful, by the way. Thanks to your tutorial, I hope to make some kanzashi for myself if I can cultivate the patience!

Thank you very much! Personally, I fold the smallest petal first then kind of build the larger petals around it - if that makes any sense. All the petals, pointed or not are made from squares of fabric in different sizes. I'm not sure what you mean by the elongated base, but basically, this kanzashi is a clip so to cover the ends of the clip I added the little pointed petals.

Ive made some with some seed beads, and I have these really pretty sakura like flowers that add the japanese feel to it. I'm not too sure Ill sell any myself, but I just gotta do more self promotion. For the moment im just liking making them for me, friends, and family. ^_^
