Description So I've uploaded a bunch of photos from Anime North 2013 on flickr, and I thought I'd post a few of my favourites here. You can view more photos of Anime North, the kimono display and the kimono fashion show (including behind the scenes shots) here: [link]

As part of the Jidai Matsuri portion of our fashion show theme, we had models dressed in various historical fashions. One of the outfits we had representing the Edo Period was our ever popular samurai. We decided to do something a bit dramatic this year and put our samurai into some kabuki-esque white makeup.

Most of the time, samurai dressed more like our Ronin on a day to day basis, but when it came to doing battle, armour was their chosen garb. Beneath the plated metal, our samurai wears multiple layers of clothing that are variations of the traditional kimono for added protection. Samurai armour is brilliantly designed. Its angular forms make it particularly good and deflecting blows from an opponent’s weaponry.

This costume comes from the personal collection of Marie-Josie Cayer.
