Description New girl and pup is finally done!

Boy, this piece has some history. I actually started working on it back in March of this year, and it's been in development hell until recently when I managed to solve the last of the problems I had with it. I redrew and re-colored large portions of it several times, and it easily totaled up to 30+ hours of work.

It's meant to be a remake of this 2013 piece.


Although the general idea of  the piece is the same, you can see there's a lot of little differences. Her clothing is slightly different, the couch's design is much more realistic, and the dog was replaced with my trademark puppy.

And when it comes to the technical side there's a huge difference. The anatomy, figure, lineart, coloring/shading and composition all improved dramatically. In just 3 years it went from looking pretty amateurish to something rather professional. All that practice and studying paying off. :d

Hopefully you'll all be there to see me in another 3 years and beyond, and are excited for what that'll look like as much as I am. :3

Great job, it's always inspiring to see improvement like this!
The lighting on the sofa is amazing and the girl looks great with a pretty natural pose

It's funny how the dog looks more like a cute stuffed toy more than an actual dog to me though

The sofa was the big element that kept this from being finished for so long. I revisited it from time to time and tried applying new techniques as I learned to see if it would look better, and only recently did it click.

And yeah, I like the idea of puppy's design being very stylized. I'm sure there's breeds out there that look similar to this - with a flat face, droopy ears, light fur - with realistic proportions, but I think it adds to the silliness/cuteness that he looks like this. :d

First off, I got a kick out of the fact that you added the dog that you'll randomly draw during your speedpaints.

Secondly, let me just gush for a second. Whenever I see a piece that you make, I feel relaxed. I noticed that a lot of your works include summer or a beach theme. Summer and beaches are some of my favorite things ever. So just seeing a piece, even one that isn't overly complex, just zens me out. I always look forward to your art.

I am super happy to hear that! A big reason I love summer settings so much is because I find them so idyllic, and I want to capture that in my work. I'm constantly getting better at it. :3
