The antagonist of Sandokan in the novel "I Pirati della Malesia"(in english "The Pirates of Malaysia") written by the italian Emilio Salgari.
Salgari took the real life governor, Sir James Brooke (1803- 1868), also called Rajah of Sarawak as an inspiration for his character, so yeah, this character really existed.
