Your capture here is Awesome!!!
The life of an old truck, the scars and scrapes, diminished paint and creeping rust, worn tires... a reflection of the hard working life it has lived. To me an old truck reflects as much about the lives of the unknown owners, or even just hard working folks in general. I much appreciate the above narrative as to how it evolved. "Scrambling" as your account portrays is known to all who value naturally occurring light as a key element of the shot. Sometimes you catch the light, sometimes the light outruns you. Thanks for sharing your great photo and its backstory. I would like to see more of that from other contributors. As R.S. said, "every picture has a story". Good hunting my friend.

It was a little uncomfortable, but well worth it in the end.

A great piece Kyle. Love the thunderhead in the background. I am in pure envy of those in the midwest that get to witness all that crazy weather.
Anyways, great shot and good story to accompany it.

Thank you sir! I'm already looking forward to next years weather season. It's been hit and miss for me being able to get out and capture the good looking storms. There was a storm several years ago that rolled over where I live and had a massive wall cloud rotating underneath it, which was my first time to physically be outside in an open area and witness the turbulent, rapid changes in wind gusts from multiple directions. It was amazing! And after it passed and continued on its northeasterly path it was picture perfect as the sun was setting...and I did not have a camera to capture it...The closest thing I can equate it to appearance was when the space ships in the movie Independence Day were entering the earth's atmosphere and produced the colorful, boiling cloud effects. Opportunities like that happen rarely and its always hard to swallow b/c you know you saw something special.

Man, Sounds like quite a sight! Being able to watch one of those supercells has got to be insane.
Have you thought about doing some storm chasing?

Officially or unofficially? I've unofficially chased storms by myself or with a friend that have been in the neighborhood, but have not gone too far from home yet. I'd love to link up with an official storm chasing crew and travel up and down the roads in the Great Plains capturing the amazing views. I don't know how I'd be able to work it in with my day job though...

Yeah, that would be fun wouldn't it? Hell, officially or unofficially would suit me. I envy many of those folks who make a good living off it. God.. Could you imagine?? The words "too good to be true" ring in my head. These guys are always really entertaining not to mention get some crazy footage. [link] I would imagine you are familiar with them?

I wished I could take off an entire summer and do nothing but that. I actually just saw several episodes of their show on Discovery Channel over the weekend. And then there's the video on their site where they are on the side of the road and let the tornado/forming tornado pass directly over them...I had never seen that before! That blew my mind on how crazy and risky that was!

I know man! lol If tornado chasing wasnt crazy enough they have been intecepting them lately. They are either really brave or just really familiar with storms and know what they can endure.

haha! Seemed like they weren't too scared in the video, but I guess they had good indication as to what the wind speeds were. But my gosh, I don't get scared easily but I think I would have been a little paranoid and on edge with something like that rolling over. It's a unique experience to be in the open and see the massive, lumbering storms roll towards you. Just in my recent adventures, I've felt extremely meager in my existence and a sense of vulnerability, whether from the lightning strikes or the shear size of the clouds. I'd definitely need a good amount of reassurance and a lapse in better judgement that I wouldn't get tossed into the next county to march into a tornado.

Thank you! I wished I was closer to the storm in the background...it would have been amazing to be up close to capture the cloud formations. I literally turned the corner from my street and saw that thing lumbering in the eastern sky and said to myself 'Oh my gosh!'.
