Description I step outside
And take in the silence...
Just gray sky and blankets of white
As far as the eye can see.

Even this dim light is blinding,
Compared to the darkness within.

I watch my bare feat as I stumble forward
Into the death filled drifts.
My tiny footprints are left behind,
Like so many fingerprints in the dust.

The snow is still falling...
Slowly and gracefully,
Softly and peacefully.
Not even the slightest hint of a breeze disturbs its gentle decent.

I open my mouth to the gray abyss,
And catch a bit on my tongue.
But violently,
My body rejects it.
It's bitter, metallic.

I hold out my hands,
And watch a single speck, as it floats into my open palm.

Quietly, I wait for it to melt.

Instead, the amount increases,
Gathering in my bony fingers.
I feel no cold.
But how can that be?
Perhaps I've gone numb?
Is there any warmth left in my ailing frame?

A cold breeze howls over me,
Making me shiver as the gray specs blow,
Like so much dust in the winds.
For a moment, the silence is shattered.

The black monster behind me roars loudly,
Breaking the silence as more gray specs swirl around me.
Gluing themselves to my petite form.
Shaking, I bring my hands up to my face,
A fine gray-white powder clings to my raw pink skin.

Trembling, I fall to the ground,
A wave of dust consumes me as I fall,
Making me look like a fading ghost.

Tears carve rivers down my cheeks,
Looking just like blood on the dark red ground.
How can it be...?
The sky is raining ashes...
