Tarzan (John Clayton II, Viscount Greystoke) is a fictional character, an archetypal feral child raised in the African jungle by the Mangani great apes; he later experiences civilization only to reject it and return to the wild as a heroic adventurer. He was married to Jane and raised an orphan 'son' called Boy. In the Skargard version of Tarzan he and Jane had a son at the end of the movie. Created by Edgar Rice Burroughs , Tarzan first appeared in the novel Tarzan of the Apes (magazine publication 1912 , book publication 1914 ), and subsequently in 25 sequels, several authorized books by other authors, and innumerable works in other media, both authorized and unauthorized.

Actually there have been at least 77 books and movies, TV series, several video games, and a stage production. Besides Skargard these actors have portrayed Tarzan are Johnny Weissmuller, Buster Crabbe, Gordon Scott, Ron Ely, Joe Lara, Travis Fimmel to name a few. Johnny Weissmuller is best known for Tarzan because of the yell. Tarzan's yell was done by Johnny Weissmuller, who patented it. No one has ever done a better yell than Weissmuller. His yell has been used in most of the Tarzan movies. He portrayed Tarzan in 12 movies from 1932 to 1948.
