I saw this movie recently and LOVED it! It was such a fun movie to watch, with great songs and a very well-written story. I've actually always wanted to see a story based on Polynesian mythology. All they ever seem to want to tell in movies and books (at least when it comes to stories about the islands in the Pacific) is how the White Man ruined it for everyone , not how it was before the Industrial Revolution took place. This was very refreshing in that regard . I didn't mind that there was no romance in the story, because frankly, not all Disney movies absolutely have to be about romance between two characters . Sometimes other things happen that can be just as world-shaking. This movie in particular was about finding oneself, learning who you are when crisis strikes and what can happen when on a personal journey, and this was very much a soul-finding mission for Moana, as well as saving the world from destruction.

Moana: I am not a princess.
Maui: If you wear a dress and have an animal sidekick, you're a princess.

There were actually a lot of funny moments in the movie, including how the Ocean prevented Maui from throwing Moana permanently off her own boat, or how he tried to leave too. In fact, the Ocean's behavior reminded me of the pseudopod from The Abyss, though things ended more positively for Moana's relationship with the ocean compared to that movie. It was especially cute watching the ocean play with Moana when she was a little toddler.

So it was an awesome movie, and I so can't wait for it to come out on DVD next spring.
