These dragons, often called "desert lights", have wings which undersides glow at night as well as when the dragon feels threatened. The dragon is well camouflaged with sandy colors and white on the underside to look like the sky when flying. Often they are hard to spot except when their wings are glowing.

People who are lost in the desert often mistake the glow of their wings in the distance as lights from a house, later accounting what they saw to mirages.
