Description "Please wait...processing" stated the computer unit as Faith's soul felt as if were being sucked out of her body.  She wasn't actually dying but it certainly felt like it. Captain Faith was attempting to load the four jump packs into the the navigation computer on the engineering deck. The process is a two part system. Each pack gets loaded into the jump control unit and verified so the jump engines will fire and brake at the correct times. The second part was done on the bridge where the jump packs would be loaded one at a time,at the ninety hour mark of each acceleration leg. Faith was still loading the second pack to the jump system.

This was one of the "Features" of running without a real engineer and navigator since elf girl had decided she had spent too much already. Which despite Faith's frustration understood there was little need to hire a full crew seeing as they were just traveling the ship and it would end up spending a few months in dry dock getting upgraded and tricked out. The second pack finally completed and the computer verified the pack and called for the next pack. With a sigh, faith obeyed the machine and loaded the next one. All the while hoping that once she was done she could get back into the void. The pack completed and with slightly less soul loaded the last one. Where the computer once again began its mantra "Please wait...loading."

After this, the ship was ready to go. Elf girl and the Cadet should have by now returned with the provisions and entertainment enough for the full three week trip. At least Faith hoped so.

The hatch behind her opened. She thought it was the Cadet letting her know they were back and all the stowed. But when she turned around her eyes met something much different. A man in his forty's of fifty's wearing an officers uniform of some kind. "Excuse me ma'am." he began. "I assume you are Captain Hallorane?".  She looked him up and down and nodded realizing she was hanging off the nav seat like a teenager watching the videos. "Yeah." she finally said deciding to remain where she was for the moment. The man smiled slightly as he started, "Excellent, I'm doctor Mason Butler. Ms Elkhorne said you's be here and that I should speak to you."

"About what?" she said feeling slightly more confused than before. "Well, I'm a commander in the reserves and I was called up to report to Regina for active service and I'm in need of transport." he said in a apologetic tone. "As there are no military ships available I was told to request a military working hop from any ship heading to Regina." The man said in a way that sounded like he hoped she understood what that all meant.  Faith did of course though she would have rather not known. In truth it's not so much as a request but an order. Not one he was giving, but rather the imperial navy. "Lucky you." Faith said as the computer changed it mantra to "Processing".

"Well Commander, it would be a pleasure to have you aboard. But I hope that...Elkhorne told you we are just traveling this ship. So there will be no passengers just us four now I suppose. I'm not even sure if the medbay is even stocked, or working. All we got is a few emergency medpacks in the locker, she's pretty stripped down. But, if you want to join us, the answer is yes." She said in mostly a flat tone. "Ms. Elkhorne did you were "traveling" the ship, not that i know what that is really. But my services are yours ma'am." He said looking relived. "Jump package collation complete, please initiate launch sequencing within twenty-four hours" the computer burped.

"Well commander, lets see if the crew is ready to go. I'll have Cadet Roth get your things loaded." She said as she stepped onto the deck.

The picture very much remind me of "Avenue 5"  - new series with Hugh Laurie on Netflix.  Hillarious - highly recommended.

But your story is different, so I am now curious to see what will be happening.
