Okay, second, the kanji on her back says "Dark."

And third, how does Lanie get dark? Well... Most of the time she's a half demon. Reality, she's 75% demon, because the kitsune spirit in her. If something life threating happens to her, or something bad (i.e) abuse, getting attack, ect) happens, she gets to be 75% demon and the kitsune spirit makes her go dark. o.o That's what my friend and I could conclude, so eh. I dunno. It works for me!
