Another wonderful portrait for Carmencita "Carmen" Ibanez, one of the main characters in Starship Troopers novel by Robert A Heinlein drawn by my fellow Vietnamese artist friend Huy Quang Ta aka cardboardbox on Artstation.com. Like the previous Rico's portrait, i use the old OVA and the Roughnecks Cartoon as basis for our Carmencita. In this case, she is a veteran pilot who had quite a history with the Roughnecks, as of the current story setting, she is now a ship captain but due to her fondness of flying, she is a rather restless individual who often seek thrilling experience through flying and combat than being stuck in a captain chair for most of the time. Being one of the Bugs War veteran, she would also served as a Flight Instructor responsible for training a new generation of Federation pilots in more advanced fighter units, most notably the F-81 Trident, an advanced high performance heavy fighter with an extremely forgiving flight characteristics but required the hands of a well-trained pilot to become a potent flying machine.

Character's Biography

A daughter of a Federation Fleet veteran of the Alpha Centauri Colonial War, back in her childhood, she lived near Juan and his parents in the same neighborhood, with their respective families extremely close. In addition, she is also one of Juan Rico's high school classmates. In school, Carmencita was the sort of woman who never settled into any relationship, with Juan describing her as having a different man around her constantly. In the end, Both of them confessed to their crush on one another and their relationship become well known in their high school years. However this relationship ended when she joined the Federal Service after they graduated from high school.
Whenever a drop ship she's piloting is crash-landed due to whatever circumstances, she often helps the Roughnecks carry out their missions. At times when she gets to talk to Rico on occasions, she would often jokingly reminds him of his lingering love for her after their graduation farewell party and how she become a major influence on his decision to enlist and the embarrassing fact that Rico would often asked for a raunchy photo of Ibanez in one of their Summer Vacations as an "encouragement item" for him during his time in the bootcamps and his early days as a low-ranking Mobile Infantry Powersuit Trooper.
During the destruction of Klendathu, she was the captain of the John A Warden battlecruiser before the ship was transferred to another commanding officer afterward. Currently she was appointed as the captain of the new modern fast battleship TFS Amagi, flagship of the Western Fleet while also providing the newly promoted Sky Marshal Rico useful advices and assisting him on his daily commands of the regional Western Fleet.
Due to her important role in assisting Rico's ragtag fleets in breaking the Bug's blockade of Earth during the final stage of the Third Bugs War, she would also be promoted to a Flight Instructor for the new recruits of the Federation Fleet in Post-War period. Due to the losses the Federation endured in the Third Bugs War, the need for skilled combat pilots become more detrimental. Being one of the surviving veterans, Ibanez is now assigned with the role of a Flight Instructor for the new Advanced Pilot Training Program, teaching a new generation of newcomer and young recruits on fighter and strike tactics and techniques on the more advanced fighter platforms with an ever increasing and demanding training courses which reflected a new era of naval expansion and development for the Federation Fleet during the Post-Citadel League Integration Period.
