OMG!! This is absolutely incredible! I'm writing a story on FanFiction.net, it's an Neon Genesis Evangelion story called Forbidden designs. I go by the pen name Brax The Great. I came up with a beefed-up, heavily armoured Evangelion idea, and you nailed it! it pictured something like this in my head, but your version is so BOSS!! I've never seen yourΒ work until now (Kicks self) but I swear you nailed what I was trying to get across to the reader! Just a fucking awesome job!Β

Went and looked at your comment there...if you render the entire image with the same high level of detail, it pulls attention away from the focal point. In real life when you look at something, everything around it that you're NOT looking DIRECTLY at dosn't have the same level of detail; it's either out of focus or just fuzzy from being in your peripheral. The technique Lasahido is using here has been around a long time, and is very effective at pulling attention right where the artist wants it.
There is a trend going around art communities like this one that rendering everything to an extremely high level of detail is a good thing. It can be, depending on the artist, the subject, and format. Brad Rigney comes to mind (look up his stuff on here, he's Cryptcrawler). It is very impressive from a technical point of view, and some artists make that work in their favor. That doesn't mean it's the only right way to draw something.
TL,DR: High detail is in the focal point of the image. This is intentional and has a purpose.
