Description The Autobot vow:

I will protect the freedom of all sentient beings.
I will defend the innocent and the weak.
I will be generous and kind to those in need,
Loyal and honest to my cause.
I will not judge those who I cannot understand,
But I will stand against those who hold evil in their sparks.
I will be a shield against the storm of hated,
A light in the darkness of despair.
I will never give up the fight for justice,
And will only take my rest when I join the Well of Sparks.
For I am the light, the truth, the guardian of freedom.
I am… an Autobot.

This is my first time entering the Model of the Month contest on the MMD-Mall, so I don’t really think I’ll win. But even if I don’t it’ll be a good learning experience for me. PMD Editor is fun, but it’s also quite challenging to use to its fullest extent, and what I’ve learned from creating this model will help in the future.

So this month’s theme is to create a Mahou Shoujo/Shounen (Magical girl/boy, for those of you who don’t speak Japanese). It’s a sub-genre of fantasy anime and manga that revolves around young girls and, rarely, boys who have superhuman abilities and defend the Earth from evil. They often have a sort of superhero identity, separate from their everyday character that they transform into through some showy process. Most often the protagonists of the stories are teenagers in middle or high school, although some are in elementary school, and there is often a romantic sub-plot. One of the best examples of the Magical Girl formula is the anime Sailor Moon.

Now, I’m not really a fan of Magical Girl shows, being more into stuff like Pokémon, but I know enough about the genre to be interested in the contest. I really didn’t know where to start, though. I could create a whole new character for the contest, but I doubt I would ever use the model again and I wanted to create something I would continue to use.

Then I got an idea. I had described my Transformers Prime OC Sapphire as a sort of psychic-warrior, and she seemed vaguely Magical-Girlish to me, so I decided to create a human form for her inspired by the typical Mahou Shoujo girl: the cheerful, up-beat school girl who has a secret identity as a warrior. But, as usual I put my own little spin on things.

I wanted to stick to Sapphire’s robot form as closely as possible with this model, but I didn’t restrict myself to making her exactly the same. Her skirt, necklace and shoulder armor are about the same, but she’s missing the sash on her skirt, her arm guards and boots are completely different, and she wears an open half jacket over a sea-green top. I also gave her a cowgirl hat. Why? Well, Sapphire is Optimus Prime’s daughter, and for some reason when I think about possible human designs for the Autobot Leader I tend to give him a cowboy hat, and I wanted Sapphire to match his MMD human model (Which I will make). In the end her outfit turned into a sort of futuristic cow-girl ensemble. Also, would your mind be blown if I told you that her facial scar is actually one of Rin’s eyebrows that I stretched and distorted over her face?

Unlike most magical girls or boys, this form, this hologram that Sapphire uses when around humans, is just a simple disguise for her true identity as an Autobot, not a secret crime-fighting alter-ego for an ordinary school girl. This is the form that she uses daily when hanging around Jasper, Nevada. She has no magical wand or staff, no showy transformation sequence or a little animal helper, nothing that is usually associated with Mahou Shoujo characters. Sapphire keeps all the powers and abilities of her robot form, however, such a super strength and psychic powers, so it seems like Sapphire is a magical girl. And this design is rather flamboyant and Magical Girl-ish, so that works too.

Edit: So, the May MOTM contest is over, and I didn't even make it into voting. Okay, that's cool, it's fine that I didn't make it. I just wish someone had told why I wasn't chosen! Is it because Sapphire is too amateur-ish looking? Did I use an illegal part? Or is it because people didn't like the overall concept? If it's the first two reasons than I understand, but if you don't like humanized Transformers, especially OCs, than that's your problem! I did what I wanted, and I would rather have people judge me for my skill than my ideas! I welcome constructive criticism, but not people who think I'm weird just because I did things my own way!

...That was a little too much, wasn't it? Note to self, don't get butt-hurt over things like this. Especially when no one has said anything on the subject.
