With the proper dark, but yet vivid background, this could make for a very original, vivid and fun but yet "spooky" Halloween atmosphere.
The tree to the left seems to be visibly liquefied and warped to a point where it is not exactly the most interesting tree. But if a little bit thinner it may be appealing to look at.
I do understand what you're trying to get at.
Maybe add a red, orange, or bright white moon, some fog, and some darker smaller trees in the background once you finish up.
It's hard to imagine a colour you could make of the ground to give contrast to the trees and future background/sky.

It's concept art, so a background (in my opinion) would only make it look vague and distract from what the concept/design here is. It's not supposed to be a completed image.

These shapes and colors are so delightful ^_^
The fattened S shape, the stump with the bark jutting of, the willow-like tree with the gaps in the leaves - these trees feel alive.
