If one were to assume a rigid wing construction, as in an airplane, they would be right. The wings are too small in relation to the weight and size.
Bumblebees, however, have wings made of the extremely elastic protein resilin. Moreover, the wings have an additional joint, which was only discovered in 2012. Both together make the wings act more like the rotors of a helicopter.
And bumblebees, thanks to the "model change," can suddenly fly.
