Description This weekend I started reading "Naked Lunch" by William Burroughs, which is an absolutely amazing book ... anyways, here's my attempt to visualize what I've read so far.

Attention Wallpaper Lovers:

Wallpapers get a lot of downloads, but they seldom get very many comments. If you like a wallpaper (by me or anyone else), please please please give it a fave, and leave a comment saying why you like it! And if you don't like it, tell us why! This is very important to those of us who make the wallpapers you download, and not just for reasons of ego-gratification. Some people think of wallpapers as so-much eye-candy ... but they are so much more also. Since you download it onto your desktop, a wallpaper can be a very personal choice, as it is something that stares back at you from your monitor everytime you start your computer. The production of decent wallpapers, like any other kind of art, requires feedback, comments and criticism! So much for my rant ... enjoy the wallpapers, and say something, damnit!!!

Attention Digital Artists:

Have you thought about posting some of your work as wallpapers? The DA community is very much about exploring avenues for creating digital art that is more than "just" eye-candy. But, sometimes, it's fun to remember that art can be as much about function as form, and one of the most traditional ~practical~ uses of digital art is as wallpapers. You might enjoy making and sharing wallpapers that, hopefully, look good and yet make the viewer stop and think for a second, or at the very least do a double-take. You might appreciate the challenge of creating a personal system of syntagmatics that successfully presents complex issues in a "pop-art" medium that tends to be highly iconic in nature. Finally, you might feel a sense of mission in working in a DA genre that really hasn't fully evolved beyond the representation of eye-candy as art. Anyways, think about it ...

I've used a lot of stock photos, so my thanks to:

Thank You Dullahan, for using my stock - the fishface suits me just fine I haven't read the book, but this is certainly an amazing - actually beautifuly bizarre and inspiring piece of Art A pleasant surprise... To even find this as a wall paper

The horse, the weird "go-go girls" and the fine perspective gives the picture awesome feeling of movement - Great talented work of contruction an illusion!

* Note that Your submissions are missing the "mature content"-label, it would be sad if Your fine and imaginative gallery was emptied from Your bizarre art because that.

Hi, and thanks for the nice words. i really recommend the book to anyone who wants to have a new and really eye-opening insight into addiction ... and not just addiction to heroin, because i think the book is really more about addiction to thinks such as power. It'is also a very biting satire of things like capital punishment. All that, and there's a powerful esoteric current to it as well.

As to the mature content label ... I really try very hard to avoid any prurient meaning to the work I do. I mean, it's very important to me to be able to say that the naked human form is not merely, or even primarily, a sexual icon. If anything, nakedness in my vision of art has more to do with the artistic process of stripping away the illusions with which we clutter up our way of constructing a comfy little reality. I recall that last spring I used the mature label on a wallpaper with an image of a penis, and I felt like an idiot afterwards, because the overall meaning of the work was actually quite religious in nature, and I felt like I was wrapping the Virgin Mary in a plain brown wrapper. If your interested, the WP I'm talking about is at: [link]

Anyway, thanks for the nice words ... and especially for posting excellent stock photos!

lol. actually, i think i would have learned more in math if the apporach hadn't always been so slide-rule scientific ... i mean, didn't some of the ancient greek guys who invented math actually treat it like a religion?

Yeah they did.
Had to take Calc 3 too many times.
Thank goodness it was not taught as a religion, I would have been excommunicated and probably expecting an visit from the Mathematical Inquisition. Those guys you can expect unlike the other ones.

Bad teachers make a hard subject harder.

Before I had even read your comment beneath your work, I thought about 'Naked Lunch' , and that this would be a perfect cover for the book(although I haven't read it in years).

Cool. I can't believe I waited this long to read ... I've been meaning to for about a year now, ever since I ran into some excerpts from it somewhere on the web. I know there's also a movie version of it out there somewhere, but I can't imagine that it is anywhere near as interesting as the book. I wonder ...
