To be totally honest, I didn't even know spiders made tunnels.

I have always been fascinated with spiders. The tunnel is sort of dual purpose. Besides the obvious enter into the wrong place and your dead, these spiders sense prey on the outside of the tube and will strike through the tube. Though I had a pet tarantula once, my worst spider encounter was a jumping spider. I would guess a couple of mm or so. It jumped from my shirt to my face to my ear. Nothing is more disconcerting than a freaked out spider running around on your ear drum. I finally drowned the sucker so I could drive to the hospital and have it flushed out. Still like them. Just not in my ear.
