Description Today's Nintendo Direct was full of non-stop HYPE!!
From Twilight Princess HD and a Midna amiibo to Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow being released on the 3DS' eShop, Nintendo has a released a hurricane of news and amazing announcements in their latest Direct.
As if their storm of amazing news weren't enough, they polished off their show with a Super Smash Bros announcement.
Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII has been announced as a DLC fighter for Nintendo's All-Star brawler.
But, that wasn't all. He is accompanied by a Midgar stage that is just full of detail and insane hazards. Additionally, Cloud will be sporting both his classic duds and his outfit from Advent Children. No news of a Kingdom Hearts design, though it could just be an alternate color for his VII outfit.
I personally wanted to see Cloud in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, though the developers abandoned that game too early on, sadly. However, Cloud looks like he's going to be an amazing character to use in Smash Bros and I look forward to his release date. The official Smash Bros website lists him in a bundle with his home stage, like Ryu was.
Here's the trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wah7AG…

Another note is that in the Direct itself, though not mentioned in the trailer I linked in this description, there will be a special Super Smash Bros presentation in December. I'm guessing this will be when Cloud's release date is revealed, but this also raises a question. Why dedicate a video entirely to Smash Bros? Perhaps Cloud is just the tip of the iceberg and we'll see even more characters as DLC? Characters are always accompanied by a wave of Mii Outfits, and when Ryu was released, they were all based on fighting games. Perhaps we'll see Mii Outfits for Final Fantasy or Square Enix characters in general? Sephiroth, Squall, Lightning, maybe even Sora, perhaps? Maybe to coincide with Pokemon's 20th anniversary in February, we could see the return of the Saffron City stage? Perhaps even a Pokken Tournament stage? Who knows?
I'm certainly excited, and I can't wait to pit Cloud against Ryu and Mewtwo. Oh, and that Death Battle of Cloud vs Link? It can finally be settled in Smash.

The developpers didn't abandon PSASBR. Sony did.

Just wanted to clear that out.

TOO happy about Cloud to wonder about PSAS.

One of the main reasons Cloud is in Super Smash Bros. is because Square Enix 100% Trust Sakurai they knew he would take the time And do the character And Final Fantasy series representation JUSTICE!.

Unlike the creators of All-stars who probably would of just instantly made Him And thrown him in.

Plus what companies wouldn't like the idea of having thier character in the same game as some of the greatest.

The man [Sakurai] works miracles he brought Back Classic Mega-Man from the dead And now Cap-Com wants to do stuff with Him again with the Legacy Collection, the Amiibo's And TV Series

Game is dead because a game where the only way to win is by connecting with a super move is shit game design.

I personally preferred Playstation All-Stars over Smash Bros, mainly because the game felt much more comfortable to play. The controller button input layout was well done, dodging felt more useful, and didn't have awkward choices like d-pad for taunting, 3 jump buttons, and 2 block buttons. I personally don't like playing 2D fighting games with the analog stick, which is what Smash Bros forced us to use, and I really didn't like it. And there were no clone characters in the cast, which was a big plus, so all of the characters felt like their own, and played very differently (There's the 2 Coles, but they're different by 1/3).

Sure, the idea of supers is questionable, but in 4-player battles, it can lead up to one of the most intense moments, especially when the game reaches overtime. Even up to this day, there are people still playing this game online, myself included, and the community is still relatively strong. Just not as strong as before, of course.

It's still around, it's just not mentioned often.
It celebrates its third anniversary the day before Smash Wii U celebrates its first

I dont get why he and Ryu are in Smash. Yeah they are icons from fighting games and rpgs but in Nintendo? They have no story.

Cloud has been on Nintendo systems before, not counting his costume appearance in the upcoming Final Fantasy Explorers. His first appearance was in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories for the Gameboy Adavance. His second and third appearances were in both Theatrhythm Final Fantasy games for the 3DS, the later having him based on his appearance in Advent Children.

Well, Ryu does actually have a bit of history with Nintendo.
Street Fighter II was popular on the SNES, plus Super Street Fighter IV 3D was a launch title for 3DS. Ryu himself has appeared in Nintendo exclusive games like Project x Zone and Tatsunoko vs Capcom.
Just because Street Fighter V is a PS4 exclusive doesn't eliminate the fact that Street Fighter and Nintendo have a history.

As for Cloud, if he's not a ballot character, then we're looking at another Big Daddy/Solid Snake situation. He's either in there for advertisement or because someone asked for him to be there.

But think of it this way. Maybe if Cloud is in Smash, All-Stars 2 could have Shovel Knight.

I see your point with Ryu.
There's probably gonna be a FF7 port for Nintendo. Btw, I bet they played FF7 on a PlayStation before they made his moveset lol xD
Well Kratos is on Shovel Knight, but so are Battle Toads, and there is a Shovel Knight amiibo, and he is in a lot if indie game as a guest so I really dont know wich side he is in tbh. If he wins the ballot then maybe he is in Smash, but in All-Stars? Eh

LeeHatake93 In reply to Alexray35 [2015-11-13 23:30:09 +0000 UTC]

I doubt we'll see Shovel Knight in All-Stars, but it would be funny if he did get it.
Everyone associates Cloud with PlayStation and a lot of people wanted him in All-Stars, so seeing him in Smash Bros is completely unexpected and PSASBR fans would be upset about it.
But, imagine the opposite. Because Shovel Knight launched on Nintendo first and has an amiibo, many people associate him with Nintendo, and a lot of people want him in Smash Bros. But, let's imagine if he didn't make it into Smash. If he was added to PlayStation All-Stars 2, then it would have as big of an impact as Cloud in Smash Bros, and the Nintendo fans would be the jealous ones.

True but yeah, we dont even know if there's gonna be a AS2
And the Shovel Knight creators agree that he should be in Smash
And Notch thinks that it would be neat to see Steve in Smash

What makes you say that?
Sakurai said every character after Ryu would be Ballot fanservice.
If he's not a ballot character, then why would he be in Smash? He's more PlayStation than Nintendo.

He's only a small preview for what's coming in December. Didn't you hear the Brawl music after the Cloud trailer?

As for why he was in Smash. . .the first 6 Final Fantasy games were all on Nintendo Systems and apparently their was a rumor where 7 was also suppose to be on the N64.

Final Fantasy has a history with Nintendo, but Cloud himself does not. His only appearances on Nintendo consoles are in spin-off games and Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories. It still stands that he is more closely associated with PlayStation since a majority of the mainstream games he appears in are on PlayStation systems. But whatever.

You make a good point. Thinking back, it is unlikely that he's a ballot winner. It's only been a little more than a month since the Ballot closed and from the look of his trailer, Cloud may be ready to launch in December. It would take a long time to tally the ballot votes, and the best they'd have for a ballot character would be a simple model render, like when Mewtwo was revealed.
Mewtwo wasn't released until several months after his reveal. I guess it would be pretty impossible for a ballot character to already be this far into development in just a month, especially a newcomer when a veteran took more than five months to develop.

So, I guess you're right. My mistake.
