Character Background:

Shanda Lars was born Shanda Arimanis Nicoli, the youngest of three daughters to a wealthy mining magnate on the dark, dreary planet of Orimandis, out beyond the Outer Rim territories. The planet was a constant source of trouble for the Republic; it boasted some of the richest sources of rare minerals to be found in the galaxy, yet its remote location caused its fledgling trade industry to fall frequent prey to pirates and regional skirmishes. An angry, violent planet, Orimandis found itself in a state of constant upheaval.

It was in one of these skirmishes, during an attack on her father's mining operation, that Shanda and her sisters lost their mother and father. Uprooted from their dark, dreary home and sent to the orphanages of Coruscant, Shanda was only two years old, the only Force sensitive one of her siblings, when she was found by the Jedi and brought to the Temple, and set on the path of someday becoming a Jedi Knight.

Shanda's dreams and future were almost extinguished forever, though, when she was only thirteen years old. An eager, promising young padawan, Shanda was present at the Temple the night that Darth Sidious unleashed his heartless assault on the Jedi. As the Jedi who remained in the Temple fell under the crimson blade of Darth Vader, the Dark Lord's evil apprentice, Shanda was given charge over a group of the youngest padawans, and hidden in an airshaft, where she sat, in hopeless darkness, watching over the small group of frightened children.

Yet hope remained; guided by his beloved wife Padmé's feelings and visions, Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi rescued her, and the children, the only survivors of Vader's merciless slaughter that night. Aided by Bail Organa, the two Jedi Knights managed to get the children out of the Temple and hide them at the senator's residence.

Obi-Wan immediately recognized Shanda's strength and potential, and, with Yoda's approval, he took Shanda to be his new padawan, while, at the same time, Owen and Beru Lars took her into their home and their hearts, providing Shanda with the one thing she had never known - the love of a family.

In the years that followed, Owen and Beru adopted Shanda as their own daughter, and she happily discarded her old family name and took the name of Shanda Lars. Like her new uncle, Anakin, her peace and contentment with her newfound family helped strengthen her oneness with the Force, and, at Obi-Wan's side, she became a powerful Jedi Knight, at the same time growing into a beautiful and graceful young woman.

Shanda's love for her family was deep indeed, as was her fondness for her cousins, Luke, Leia, and Lana Skywalker. Thought she was a bit older than them, she took them into her hearts, and they were inseperable, especially when they came to join their family for the harvest each season.

It was during one of those harvests, when Shanda's life, and the life of her family, changed forever. How did it change? You'll just have to read along with us in Episode IV and beyond to find out!
