A RPG character commission for T. (who never gave me his DA profile name! ). I really enjoyed painting this picture, and I must say it was a great practise of painting black in colour! Sounds weird, I know, but painting black doesn't mean painting in grayscale.

The PSD file will be available for my patrons as a bonus to January $5+ reward packs.
Throw $1 to my tip jar on PATREON . Thank you!

That was a huge thing I learned while painting when it came to black, and observed my own clothing to actually see it in action. The best black is to not even use black paint, but use the darkest shade of a specific color (red, brown, blue, green, etc.), give it a heavy wash, then take that base color again and make that the beginning of the color. It makes the colors on my figures explode and seem more natural. I've started to use a similar practice with white as well; base white, ink was the color I'm looking to make the prominent color, and then choose an appropriate shade (pink, lavender, pale blue, mint green, etc.) to paint over the wash, and give a layer of white as the final step. I know that painting in a digital format is vastly different though, but I'm sure the same techniques may be used...or I should just stick to painting figures, lol! XD

I also want to call this guy 'Cool Hand Luke.'Β

First of all: Cool hand Luke. Noooooo!Β Β

And to art: you're absolutely right about the white and black! If it would beΒ #000000 andΒ #ffffff then the ridiculous (for som people) painting like "White on white"Β by Kazimir Malevich or vantablack material wouldn't be a thing at all! I'm sure that a lot of techniques form miniature painting can be applied to digital media. If digital can mimic the feel of traditional oil painting then I guess it's only a matter of finding a brush that suits you the most. And there are hundreds of brushes for Photoshop, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Some day, and I say that like I'm going to be painting something again soon, I'll take some pictures of my steps for white at least. I really like how it shows up.

And that's a no I'm guessing for Cool Hand Luke?
