Description
OK, so like, I saw a couple redraws of this particular image of Fluttershy, and was compelled to do one myself, in hopes that it might become a trend? Maybe?
From what I understand, the reference image is a edited screencap from ‘Equestria Girls: The Legend of Everfree’. She’s depicted wearing a crop top rather than her tank top, for whatever reason. Makes me wonder if the artists that redrew this frame were aware that it was actually an edit or not. Idk…
I’ve not really outwardly mentioned this (you might have already guessed anyway) but I enjoy drawing midriffs quite a bit, especially in soft-shading.
There’s a lot I can do with soft-shading since I use like 4 layers of skintone, and the midriff has just become the perfect canvas to practice a bit of superficial anatomical detailing; making the abs pop with splashes of highlight, accentuating the curves with the base shadow layer, and bringing out the hipbones and ribcage with what I like to call a “crevice” layer, which I use to give a bit of depth to the belly button as well.
Bit of a tangent, but yea, soft-shading is pretty versatile when doing the anatomy stuffs. 👍
Another interesting thing about this piece is it's one of the first drawings I've posted where the sketchwork was drawn longhand digitally. Prior to something like this, all my drawings have started out as traditional sketches scanned and digitally outlined and colorized. I just figured digital sketching would be a nice skill to have in my arsenal, pretty resourceful to!
As always, Hope you Enjoy.
If you wanna see more Fluttershy, go ahead and drop a watch ^^.
