Description UPDATE: Better photo!

Marasy8 is one of my biggest musical inspirations. Here, listen: [link]

This is a redo of a previous sketch of mine. It got into my head and wouldn't let me do anything else until I'd finished it.

This is what music is to me, what piano playing is to me. You create a whole different world of your own, and express that through your playing. The real world disappears, and you're transported to a world of fantasy. I tried to portray that in this.

WARNING. DO NOT PLAY THAT COMBINATION OF NOTES. They don't make any sense musically. Unless you specifically want something sounding dissonant.

The art and concept is completely and totally =LennyThynn 's! The random dude may become a character of hers later on.

Acrylic, watercolour, ink, and clear nail polish on A3 canvas paper, December 2012.

That picture is one of the most likeable works for me in your gallery.
What we can see here? Music. Nature. They are linked with each other firmly. Firstly your attention is attracted to strange feather strings growing from mysterious fog reality. Where a person is playing? Into forest? Hill? Or an aquarium filled with his own thoughts? Keys of piano strenghtens impression of the underwater and adds curious thoughts about enormous sea monster with "musical" teeth and enogh kindness for allow to play on them.
The centre of picture, musician, looks such a streak for music. It leaks into his veins, shines from fingers and conquers ambience. Eyes are closed by hair and ears surrounded with headphones - he hasn't any feelings instead of melodic dreams.
For conclusion i clapped eyes on technique and colors. A few main colors with smooth tones calms down and gave a feeling of harmony.
A perfect work with simple and fascinating advantages.

I love the concept. I play piano as well, and can totally relate to the idea that playing music can take you to other places. I also like your color choices. They are very soft and dreamy, and combined with the delicacy of the vines and plumes, you have made a very intricate and lovely world in the musical ethers.

I think that the composition for this piece, given the ideas that you would like to convey, could be on the more fluid and circular side of things. Everything that is going on with this piece in happening right in the center, with the three diagonal lines shooting out. While I agree that there is quite a bit of music out there that could be visually described as "linear," (the marches of John Philip Sousa come to mind) to me, it seems like the music that you are trying to describe is the kind that ebbs and flows, rises and falls, fills you and makes your heart swell and then gently leaves, giving you the feeling that you have just experienced something wonderful. In my view, that kind of music moves like water, or smoke perhaps.

Although you did mention that the notes being played are on the dissonant side of things, so maybe you wanted the harsh lines of dissonance to cut through the peaceful mood you had set up?

I think it would be cool to see the music as a device to lead the eyes around the word. As it sits now, the eyes stay in one spot primarily. You could have the music sort of tendril its way around. Soft, curious, moving, exploring.

Anyway, that's what I think of that. Really pretty piece though, as far as I am concerned. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/sā€¦ " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>

I love the line patterns but I wonder what the right hand is doing... seems like a wide glissando.

And you have it spot on - it is a glissando. Unfortunately the reference I used was my own hand, without a mirror or keyboard at that moment available, so it is most probably not extremely accurate ;D

BenJogan In reply to LennyThynn [2014-01-23 16:58:27 +0000 UTC]

No no, at the contrary it's pretty accurate. It's just that I couldn't really see the "dynamic" of the movement. It's very well drawn indeed.

Aaah, I get what you mean. I think that might have to do with the overall body pose... hmm. Part of it is, too, that I wasn't quite going for a dynamic looking piece But thank you! You made me think

YOU DID IT!

I remember that awesomesauced sketch and you told me you were prolly going to make it into a bigger pic.. and here it is! <3

I totally love the artwork here! I like the background plants (are they plants?) and the beams the keys shoot after being pressed on! It's a really nice mix of music and art, those two things blend really well here. It's just awesomesauced and amazing at that!

I simply fell in love with this one.. I wish I could hang it up on my wall..

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

LennyThynn In reply to Lumenvel [2013-01-07 02:01:47 +0000 UTC]

Thank yoooou!<3 Yes, they are plants, and yaaaay!<3 You noted the beams! I was wondering how long it would take before someone commented on them...

I think I will be making a few more like this! Maybe with different instruments, and perhaps different characters, too. But I don't want the characters to overwhelm it with their personality... they'll be faceless, that'll work. Like this one.

I'm happy!<3 Who knows, maybe one day you will be able to<3 just a suggestion, just a suggestion... I'm not going to give it away before I've scanned it properly, though!

YAY! Someone commented on the fingers!<3
I made so many odd poses with my own hands to get the right look... they felt really weird afterwards >.> Seeing as I not only had to have the right positions, but also in such a way that I could actually see!

And you also commented on the colours!<3
I love you<3 You named everything I like about this myself<3
