Description
Another encounter with the reflection...
The Dragon Unicorn - Chapter 09Slin and Gallan were running through an underground tunnel. They were already tired and could barely catch their breath but their motivation was refilled by explosions they heard behind. With each explosion the tunnel shook alarmingly, as if it was about to collapse. Loud bangs echoed far in both directions. Friends didn't want to turn around so as not to slow down yet they guessed that the explosions were leaving big holes in the tunnel walls. This may be why its size differed in individual sections. As a matter of fact, there should have been one explosion, exactly where sparks fell from Gallan's wings, but they kept repeating. All because of the unicorn's nervousness, which caused sparks to constantly keep falling on the mushrooms as they ran. - You need to… calm down… Gal… sparks! - Slin shouted to him, catching her breath between words. - I do... what I can! The exit... is near! Light at the end of the tunnel was growing rapidly. They were about to escape. Slin was slightly faster than Gal and the light coming from the passageway had already engulfed her. Gal gathered the last bits of his strength, spread his wings and pushed himself off the ground with his hind legs as strongly as he could. Gliding through the last section of the tunnel on a gust of air heated by the explosions, he plunged into the light as well. Completely exhausted wandererswere laying on the ground breathing heavily. The explosions stopped and everything went quiet again. When after a while friends came to their senses and calmed down enough to figure out where they were, it turned out that they had not reached the exit from the tunnels at all. They were in a large cave filled with various glowing crystals. They gave much more intense light, than the encountered previously plants, and illuminated the entire interior. Slin sat up and looked behind her. - Look. - she said - The tunnel has collapsed. - And that’s very good. I’ve had enough tunnels with dangerous mushrooms for one day. Friends looked at each other and burst out laughing, partly as a way to relieve the stress. Then they stood up and brushed off the dust and dirt. - Let's look for a way out. This time the real one. - Gal suggested. Unicorn and Siffa started looking around the cave. The rock masses did not create a completely open space but divided it into smaller or larger parts. Looking up, it was difficult to tell where the cave ended, as its upper part resembled a chasm with rocks covering each other. However, some sunlight came through the cracks, so it must have reached all the way to the surface. There was also a gentle dripping sound around. Small streams of water flowed down the walls and into one, larger trough hidden behind rocks. - These crystals are extraordinary. I've never seen anything like that. Their structure would indicate that they are… Excited Slin was flying from one crystal to another, getting further and further away from Gal, until she finally disappeared among rock masses. Unicorn couldn't deny that the crystals were indeed beautiful, so he looked into every nook and cranny in search for passage with no less pleasure than Slin. He was just passing a smooth crystal wall when he heard a voice. - Are you avoiding me? Gal jumped as if he had been scalded, not expecting to meet anyone here. He looked around but saw no one. - Hello? Is anyone here? - he asked. - Of course there isn't. There's only you... and your reflection. - voice replied. Gallan slowly turned towards the crystal wall and saw the dark unicorn glaring at him. - Will you always jump like that when I show up? - reflection said mockingly. - What do you want again? - Gal asked. - I’ve told you I'll always be where you are. I just wanted to check how you're doing. - Well, you've checked then, now go away. Gal didn't feel like talking to his reflection again, because truth be told, he was afraid of this dark version of himself. He passed the crystal quickly and turned right behind it. To his horror, it turned out that around the bend there was another crystal wall, which he almost ran into. In the reflection, dark unicorn was already waiting for him. - Haha, you still think you can escape from what must happen. - dark unicorn laughed - Don't you see that your powers bring only destruction? The sooner you come to terms with it, the better. - You won't tell me what to do! - anger and impatience began to grow in the young unicorn - Our powers are dangerous but they do not have to serve only destruction. And why am I telling you this anyway? You are just a figment of my imagination. - Are you so sure about this? Or maybe you're afraid to admit that you're falling into, as you once said, madness? Gal wanted to deny it immediately but he hesitated because he couldn't rule out such option. He didn't know how the other Dragon Unicorns became evil. Who knows maybe they were also having hallucinations. - Possibly... so excuse me, but I'm pressed for time. - saying this Gal has already taken a step forward. - You're in such a hurry to this meaningless cave. What if all you find there is… nothing? - reflection asked a question that was also on Gal's mind. - Then... I'll find another way to control my powers. Do not trouble yourself about that. - By then, my dear, it will have been too late. - dark unicorn smiled sinisterly and his eyes burned with fire. - No, it won't. - Gal said through gritted teeth. This is what the reflection has been waiting for. Young unicorn let his anger get out of his control and the powers immediately followed it. A concentrated beam of fire erupted from his horn and shot at the crystal wall, causing it to shatter into pieces and crash to the ground. The shot was so powerful that made all the crystals nearby shook and Gal was thrown backwards onto the hard stones. There was no trace of the crystal and the dark unicorn but for a next few days Gal's battered body wouldn’tlet him forgethowit ends when you lose control and use powers in anger. He knew the reflection might be right. What if he finds no answers in the cave and the powers take him over? What will then happen to Slin, the Glade and everyone who comes near him? Gallan finally got up from the ground, dusted himself off and headed deeper into the cave to catch up with Slin and continue his journey. He was walking slowly as one question was tearing its way to his mind. What is the secret of controlling powers? After a while, he heard his friend's call. - Gal, look! Unicorn went behind one of the rock formations and saw Siffa standing near the stream. To his surprise, she wasn't alone.,
