Description
You probably recognize the name Triton from the Disney movie The Little Mermaid, but the Disney character was loosely based on a god from Greek Mythology. The mythological Triton was not a sea-king, but instead the herald of the sea and the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite. Typically depicted as a merman, many works of classic art illustrate Triton with two fish tails. His most classic accessory is a conch shell trumpet, which he uses to manipulate waves and announce his father Poseidon's approach. He's also occasionally depicted with a trident, though this trident is not the same one used by his father Poseidon, and (to my knowledge) has no special attributes. According to Ovid, Triton is also "sea-hued" and has barnacle shells stuck to his shoulders, but I decided to give him a cleaner look.
