Description Two more mini feathers, this time featuring a timber wolf in the woods and an arctic fox. I’m experimenting with adding backgrounds this time. Both are painted on reeves’ pheasant underwing feathers with added chinchilla / cream cock hackles on the backs, ending in 2 wooden pukalets. Both are around 5cm in length (not including the hackle feather) and sealed with a clear acrylic coating.

Nooooo! On the contrary, I think your artwork does show your soul. It's full of colour, and that is your expression. You shouldn't look down at what you do like that yannow. Positivity is good!

Thank you, and I must apologise for the comment I left on your deviation. In it I said that you should try painting one again sometime, but it seems from your other deviations that you already have! Well great work! I hope you keep the feather painting up!

Phoenixflysagain In reply to Leopreston [2007-01-03 01:38:14 +0000 UTC]

No problem! I'm sure to keep at it. Being as I have about 10 more feathers to work with! I'm amazed at the ampount of skill you put into your own paintings. I think I'd be too timid to work on an even smaller scale than a turkey feather. Your work is just as amazing!

Leopreston In reply to Phoenixflysagain [2007-01-03 11:13:54 +0000 UTC]

Good for you!

Btw, Thank you, I think it's just that everyone has their own comfort zone. I prefer working in small scale because I'm comfortable with that, and you like large scale for the same reason. It's just discovering what you like most. Either way is neat says I!

Although there are loads of artists painting on feathers, the art itself remains relatively unknown. I'm just not aware of other feather painting artists working at this size is all.

These are really cool. How do they get displayed, once you've finished them?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Leopreston In reply to CapnFlynn [2006-11-21 14:42:47 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!
Well, they can literally be displayed in any way. They can be framed or sown onto bags/clothing/hats ( they're pretty well protected by their clear coating, so are flexible with that kind of wear) etc... any way really.
Personally, if I know I'm going to be holding on to them for a while, I like to prop them up on an antler (it has various holes drilled into it for displaying feathers of this size) that I have on my shelf. That's how I display them to people anyway.
