Sometimes I wonder if Oscar must secretly be magic. Like, some kind of subtle magic that just draws all this craziness to him and keeps him from going crazy dealing with it.

Oh, Oscar freaks out quite a lot at first. Haha. The first time he sees Sylvia he runs away and hides in his car until he can talk himself back in the house.
What's interesting about him is that he's a journalist, so he never says "I don't believe it" he just starts asking questions and trying to understand.

Haha! That sounds like a really good take on this kind of story. I love the "journalist" aspect.
Though it kind of inevitably leads to the question of "how long until his 'crackpot stories' wind up ruining his career'...?"

He actually kind of quits his job and runs away from home at the beginning of the comic. (Oscar, what are you doing??)
After meeting Sylvia and Clifford he starts to write down everything that happens to him, sort of as a way to process it, and also because that's just how his brain works. That leads to problems of its own, though. Always problems for that poor guy.

Oh, gosh. Don't ever say that to him! Oscar has a real problem with emotional vulnerability. He only ever wants to be funny/smart Oscar. He couldn't stand to be thought of as someone to be pitied.
OH NO THAT MAKES IT WORSE DOESN'T IT?
