My entry for contests where we had to desing a dragon ^^ (and make up a story about it)

Name - Dahlia
(based of the flower and it meanings which are
Elegance and Dignity, Forever thine)

Age- 375

Gender - Female

Breed - Tropical Drake Dragon

Elements - Fire

Story

Around 400 years ago the land in which dragons lived had bountiful summers, where prey could raise more young than previous years. This also meant that the dragons could raise more young than usually and many took advantage of the bounty and had young while prey was easy to find.

During this boom Dahlia was born, she was just like any other dragon of here kind (apart from she had slightly larger wings) but this didn't really make a difference to anything at the time.

She grew up strong and healthy with her brothers and sisters during the golden age, however as she grew older see noticed with each passing year they summers grew less bountiful.

At the age of 50 she was a mature female and her brother and sisters where leaving the nest to find there own territories. Dahlia however thought everything through, she knew with the current dragon population and worsening summers that prey animals would not reproduce fast enough to feed the dragons growing numbers.

So when most dragons went south, to take the rewards of the green lands she flew west...towards the desert. She knew that no dragons lived here but she also knew it was a harsh environment.

For years she lived on the border of the desert venturing for a couple of days to learn it secrets and how to survive. And one day she went in and never returned.

Around 50 years later, as predicted many of the prey animals fell pray to the worsening weather and with there downfall the dragon population fell as well.

Many in desperation travelled long distances to find prey, some ventured into the desert to find food. Many feel prey to it and those who did come out never had any luck.

When the dragon population decreased again and the weather stabilized the prey animals finally began to reproduce again. The balance had been restored and everything was almost back to the way it was around 100 years ago.

Dragons started becoming more civil to one another and began to tell stories of the hard time, one young dragon tolled the story of how he had travelled to the desert to look for prey...only to be caught in a sand storm. He remembered not being able to fly in it and was constantly pelted by the waves of sand.

He then went on to explain as he was on the brink of sleep he saw something riding the sand, something red and white, almost as if it was in tune with it.

After losing consciousness he woke up on the desert border unsure of how he got there.

Years later other dragons claimed of seeing the sand drake, gliding over the desert dunes. Word began to spread and legends began to form of the mythical dragon who protected those who got lost in the desert and could fly in the worst of storms, ride the scorching desert thermals and survive…

and many believed she was still out there...
