This feels like the monologue of my life when I was in junior high. Awesome that you chronicled it before you forget.

Thanks! Yes, I'm trying very hard to make a series of mini-comics about my life growing up because I think a lot of people can relate. And I want people to know they're not alone! Even now, my story is still valid.

This is really nice.  I want to give you a suggestion (and by all means totally ignore it if you don't need it):

I think it would be better with hand-drawn letters and balloons.  Because the panels and the drawings are loose, the lettering is a little jarring.  Since it looks like you painted it, what you could do is use tracing paper.  Lay it on top, do your balloons and letters, and drop them in in Photoshop or whatever you're using to do balloons now.  I think it would unify your work a lot.

That's totally unsolicited advice, so no offence meant if you don't care for it.  Keep it up!

i'll definitely consider doing the thought/speech bubbles like that in the future. the technique you suggested is not something i had thought of. in the past i have ended up cramping my text or my images when i tried to incorporate the text directly into the pieces. my own handwriting is TERRIBLE though. i've hand written stuff before as carefully and neatly as possible that i ended up going back and redoing in photoshop because half of it was illegible. thanks for the tip!

I know how you feel about bad lettering, I don't consider myself a master.  All the same, you improve through practice, and hand lettering just looks way better.  Even Lynda Barry gets by with scratchy letters.

A tool like this can help set up a size guide as well: ames-guide_diagram.png
