Description         "You know what I should do?" Judith asked.
"What's that?" Rose asked. Rose was Calcifer's girlfriend. They'd been together for just a few weeks now, they'd been in the tenth grade for the same amount of time.
"I should do what every mother does in those films and sit-coms!" Judith said. "Show my widdle boy's baby pictures to his girlfriend!" Calcifer moaned as his mom pinched his cheek.
The three of them were sitting in the living room of Calcifer's house. He and Rose had been trying to watch a film, but had to stop when Judith arrived—due to the fact that the movie would've been deemed "inappropriate" by a mother like Calcifer's.
"That's a great idea!" Rose said, patting her boyfriend's cheek, where it was red from the pinch.
"Hmm, no. Sounds boring to me." Calcifer said. Judith had gotten up and grabbed a photo album from a shelf beside the television.
"Then you can leave." Judith replied, the big book held in front of her with two hands.
"I will." Calcifer said, hoping to prompt Rose into leaving with him.
"Bye Calcifer." Rose said, grinning at him as he slowly left the living room. Calcifer waited outside the door, and peered in after a minute to see that Judith had plopped herself down beside Rose on the couch. As Judith opened the book, half on Rose's lap, half on her own, Calcifer strolled casually back into the room.
"I'm not leaving." Rose said as Calcifer opened his mouth. He shut it, and went to stand behind the couch. Judith acted as if her oldest son wasn't there.
"Here he is on the day he was born!" The blonde middle-aged woman said, pointing to a picture. "That man there is his father." Peter Hughes was a tall man with straight brown hair. In the picture he was wearing a small smile and was awkwardly holding baby Calcifer.
Judith continued through the book, with Rose "aww-ing" at all the pictures. Calcifer looked over their shoulders at the pictures, remembering some, but not even recognizing a lot of them.
"Who's this girl in all the pictures?" Rose asked eventually. They were in the age-five zone of the book now, and in a majority of the photos, a little brown-haired girl was smiling next to a pint-sized Calcifer.
"Melody Miller." Judith said proudly, and Rose turned to look up at her boyfriend.
"You really have known her a long time." She said, returning to a conversation they'd had weeks ago. Calcifer nodded.
"Oh yes, since Mel's birth, they've been friends." Judith continued. "Always doing everything together." Judith flipped the page, and Rose let out an exceptionally loud "aww!"
"Look, he's smiling!" Rose said, planting her finger on a close-up of Calcifer's face when he was five. He still remembered that day, actually. There was a plethora of pictures from that rainy day. The photo underneath the close-up was of him and Melody splashing in a puddle. Mel was wearing a pink coat, and Calcifer was decked out in rain boots that hid his pale legs. His knobbly knees peeked out from under his shorts.
"Why is that weird? I smile." Calcifer said, and Rose laughed. "I do!" He protested. When Rose looked at him, he smiled for her. She laughed again.
"You're so unconvincing!" She said, and Judith nodded her agreement.
        "Well, you're impossible." Calcifer returned.
