He actually did die once. He was killed by the Nomad probe, but it subsequently revived him on Kirk's orders. (Nomad obeyed because it thought Kirk was it's creator)

Yeah...no matter what else people might think about some of the books, I think the version of events in "The Good That Men Do" is much better. They even noticed how little sense it made.
*cough* Uh, I mean, uh... wasn't "Terra Prime" the last episode? (maybe if I ignore "These Are the Voyages", that episode'll go away...)

Yeah... it was all a cover-up to hide the fact that Trip was recruited by Section 31, if I remember correctly.
Funny thing about the book is, they address some of the logic errors in the story, like the lack of promotions, Porthos not aging a day, all that...
