Description
This was a piece done for my second year Architecture course - it's the concept image for a "recycled city" project, where we had to collect a load of rubbish from skips and the like (and look like tramps) and then create a makeshift city out of the rubbish we collected.

Our city was based upon the theme of one which is ever moving and evolving - with a self sustaining main source of power. I liked the idea of a gypsy city which could pack up and go, yet leaves a trail of something behind - whether it's positive, like culture and architecture, or negative, like pollution and exploitation of resources, so my concept image is based on the unravelling and unfolding from a centre point of both good and bad.

I tried to express it through the imagery of the scythe on the right and of the wings on the left both unravelling from the centre point of the "sun" and of threads of knowledge and history unwinding from it too. There is also a progression of white to black, which I tried to use to suggest the "journey" of the gypsy city - coming into somewhere new and fresh and pure, and then, writing over the blank space with their own history and culture, and to some extent blackening it. The whole composition is also shaped somewhat like a phoenix - a bit of a cliche, but it suggests the rising of the city from the ashes of before, as it moves on to the next place along it's journey.

/ramble. There is a lot more to say, but I'm sure no one has gotten this far in the explanation of the image anyway. XDDD
